UU Carnival is at Peacebang

Check out the most recent installment of the carnival here.  We received two submissions, but I’m sure you have more opinions on the topic.  Check out Peacebang’s commentary on the quote and add to the discussion.

Also, we’ve received one suggestion for a way to get more involvement in the carnival–a more open topic, like simply “love” or “community” or “change”, rather than a quote and/or a specific description?

What say you?  Do you need a framework from which to riff, or would you rather have one word and brainstorm from there?

I think there needs to be some clarity on how submissions to the Carnival are dealt with – I tracked back to the post announcing this Carnival, yet wasn’t included. Most carnivals I’ve read don’t require the author to submit posts, but rather the host to find the good ones from taggings and trackbacks and go from there.

The UU Carnival itself I think would benefit from less direction rather than more – most of us seem to blog from what we see in our every day life, and don’t do well with assigned topics. Perhaps it would make more sense to do more of a summary of what the UU blogosphere is talking about than to ask that people write about the same things. More work for the host, though.

Also, it would be lovely if this comment text were larger. It’s hard to read. ;-)

I haven’t gotten any trackbacks, Jess, sorry. Can you put your URL in a comment? I’ll see if PB can add you in! Got it, found it, passing on to PB.

The carnivals I follow all require submissions–most of them don’t even take all of them, but will reject blog posts. I don’t do that and am not planning to.

That said, I tried the trackback/tag method a while ago, and no one followed that, either! So I guess I’m not sure how I can make it easier than sending an email with four lines of text in it:)

However, your idea about “what the blogosphere is talking about” is interesting–but as it is, it’s hard to find folks to host, so I’m not sure that people would be up for it. If you’re volunteering, though… ;)

(Oh, and I’ll see what I can do about the text–it’s based on a plug-in theme, so I might need to try another one…) You can always do the CTRL + function in IE or Firefox….

  4. It seemed to me that this time there was very little time between the announcement of the topic and the due date. Given a hectic life with major commuting time on a nearly daily basis, I’ve just started putting together my thoughts on this most recent topic this morning (a day or so late…). I actually appreciate having a topic to think about – it often gets me thinking about something besides what I might come up with on my own (even if I frequently riff in another direction).

Thanks, Earthbound Spirit. You’re right–I have been struggling finding folks to host and so I waited until last minute. I normally try to give at least two weeks, and aim for the first Friday of the month. I’m going to try to keep on schedule better going forward.

I put a link to your post at Peacebang. Thanks for your discussion; I think it was a very helpful perspective on the quote.

I think you might get broader involvement with a single important concept or phrase – this has actually been my basis for starting out on my own blog, which is brand new. Right now we’re doing “religious experience.”

Imo the most simple, basic faith-terms are well worth exploring. People often talk right past each other because these key terms are laden with so many connotations.
